The Society holds colloquia in the autumn ('The Autumn Colloquium') and in the spring ('The Spring Meeting') on epigraphic themes. The BES Autumn Colloquium is organised by the Society's Secretary and is typically held in London, the Society's 'founding city': in addition to longer papers and presentations, the colloquium provides an opportunity for members to present their own epigraphic research to an informed and friendly audience in the form of short epigraphic reports and posters. The BES Spring Meeting is held in diverse places and institutions, typically organised by members of the Society, in agreement with the Society, on a specific theme chosen by the organisers: BES Spring Meetings have been held in such exciting cities  and places as Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester in the UK, as well as Dresden, Vienna, and Rome in mainland Europe.

Below (the 20th century reincarnation of the Res Gestae) is a list of previous BES colloquia.
